Aluminium & Fabrication FAQs

Almost all window and door work uses aluminium alloys from the 6000 series, usually 6063 or 6061, extruded into profiles. 6063 takes a finer finish and is the usual choice for sliding and casement frames; 6061 is stronger and turns up where sections carry more load. Profiles are then either powder-coated or anodised. What matters more than the alloy name is the wall thickness of the section and the quality of the gaskets and rollers, because that is what decides whether a window still slides properly in five years.

Powder coating bonds a colour layer to the outside of the profile, so it comes in any colour and is the more common finish here. Anodising converts the surface of the metal itself into a hard oxide layer, which wears better and resists corrosion longer, but the colour range is limited. For most buildings in Kampala, powder coating is the sensible choice. For coastal or heavily industrial sites, anodising is worth the extra.

Ask to see finished work that has been standing for a few years rather than photographs taken on handover day. Check the profile thickness being quoted, not just the price per square metre, because a thin section is the usual reason a cheap quote turns out expensive. Confirm whether the quote covers supply only or supply and installation, ask who is responsible if a measurement is wrong, and get the warranty in writing. A fabricator who measures on site before quoting is giving you a firmer number than one who quotes from a drawing alone.

Yes. We are based on Naalya Road in Kampala and work across Uganda, and we take on international clientele as well. Travel and transport for upcountry work is set out separately in the quotation so you can see exactly what it adds.

Both, though most of our work is supply and installation. Taking on the installation means the fabrication is measured against the opening as built rather than as drawn, which is where most fitting problems start. If you have your own installers we will quote supply only and set out the tolerances they need to work to.

It depends on the package and on material availability, so we give a timeline with the quotation rather than a general figure. What we can say is that the programme is agreed before work starts, and if something moves we tell you rather than letting you discover it on site.

We do not publish price lists, because cost turns on the profile system, the glass specification, the finish, the opening sizes and the site. Any figure given before a survey is indicative only. Once we have measured, the written quotation is firm for the period stated on it, subject to material costs and exchange rates at the time of order.
